Driving routes to Casa Arabella holiday cottages in Southern Portugal
Wherever you start your journey, there are many excellent road routes to the Algarve.
From the UK you obviously need to use either a ferry service or the Channel Tunnel.
The trip is undoubtedly not for the faint hearted, you will travel quite a few kilometres to get here, but a whole new dimension will be added to your holiday before you work hard at relaxing in the sunshine at Casa Arabella.
Having time available to drive here in a leisurely manner brings the benefits of seeing so much more of the changing countryside as you drive South.
There are many fine and sensibly priced places to have an overnight stop or two on your journey
If this is your choice for travelling, we will be happy to send you some route suggestions.
If you are a member of a motoring organization, most will offer detailed route plans and advice on your trip.
There are several online route planners available and I have included links below to help you.
One small note however is that none of the route planners that I tested, will direct your route via South of England to Northern Spain ferries, and always seem to select the short routes into France.
The crossing into France is much shorter and faster, but leaves many more kilometers to drive compared to the slower channel crossing to Northern Spain. It is easily possible to drive from Santander or Bilbao in one journey, an overnight stop is almost inevitable if you choose to arrive via France. "Team" driving is one solution, but this is a holiday after all.
If your preference is to travel to Santander or Bilbao to start your journey in Europe I would suggest that you plan 'Two' routes, the first to help you in England from your home to the ferry port of your choice, and the second from the port of arrival in Europe to Casa Arabella. For your destination in Portugal use "S.B. Messines", our own detailed local instructions will bring you the last few kilometres very easily.
