Choosing your ferry route to mainland Europe
Generally the Ferries will be used by our guests arriving from the UK and Ireland, as most other places on the European mainland are served by direct road links. Choosing a ferry route The crossings to France are much shorter, but with a long drive to get here. The roads in France from all the major ports are very high standard, however many are "Toll" roads. The speed and ease of travel outweigh the cost of the toll, and the ferry crossing is also much cheaper as a rule.
Crossings to the North of Spain are much longer and a bit more expensive but result in a much shorter drive down through Spain and into Portugal. The longer crossing time gives between 24 hours (to Santander) and 36 hours (to Bilbao) to spend relaxing and adding the extra experience of a "Mini Cruise" to your holiday.
Once on the road there is a choice of routes that will get you here quickly and safely. Or try a slower more scenic journey, even stopping off overnight to sample much more of the country. If this is your choice for travelling, we will be happy to send you some route suggestions. If you are a member of a motoring organization, most will offer detailed route plans and advice on your trip.
